What Happens Next?

I can work directly with you, or I can liaise via your Funeral Director; whichever you are most comfortable with.   If working with you directly, via an initial phone call or email exchange I will liaise with a family member, or representative of the family, to discuss what you would like me to photograph. For example, we will talk through a general order of the day and any themes that you are planning.

After that I will ask that an email is sent to me which confirms the venues and times of the service and wake, a named person with whom I can liaise with on the day of the funeral, and any additional requirements.DSC_5854_1

Please don’t hesitate to discuss any element of the funeral with me.  I am completely open minded and appreciate that there are all sorts of ways that people want to handle these occasions, from the traditional form to the completely alternative.  I will endeavour to accommodate all.

When the day arrives, I will meet the named person before proceedings begin, just to run through anything that has been outlined in the earlier email.  This is also an opportunity for the guests to see that there is an official photographer present.  It is important that they know this, and a small mention of it in the order of service, or in invitations prior to the funeral, is appreciated if possible, so-as not to take anyone by surprise.

I then proceed to photograph the funeral and wake.  I do not use flash photography, but rely on whatever light sources are available at the time. In order to cause as little distraction as possible, I photograph from the sidelines using reportage style.  I am discreet and thoughtful about the photographs I take, and work with utmost sensitivity to the people in attendance and the situation as a whole.

Once the day is over, I endeavour to provide an online link to a gallery of your photographs within one week (but often within a couple of days) in order for you to share with people who were unable to attend the funeral in person.  This gallery is password protected and will be available for six months, during which time you can download the photographs as many times as you want to.  In addition to this I provide all of the photographs on a memory stick and deliver it to you.   I can also produce a printed photo book on request – please see the Pricing page for more information.
